  • The SEL Survey results are a report of your student’s self-reported strengths and experiences at a particular moment in time. Survey results are reported in the areas of Self-Management, Growth Mindset, Social Awareness and Self-Efficacy. I wish all of you a very merry holiday season and a happy new year! Also, as a reminder – there will be work completed (hopefully completed) over the winter break to create a security vestibule at Long Branch. This means that once you ring the bell to come into the building at Door 1, you will have to enter through the front office, there is not the ability for visitors to walk directly into the school’s front hallway (those doors will be locked and closed during the school day). So if you drive by the school, you will see folks at the school, however – the front office and building are closed.

  • Counselor’s Corner: Hello Long Branch community! Our names are Stephanie Martin (full-time) and Iliana Corcoran (Tuesdays only). We are the school counselors at Long Branch and are excited to support your students this year. One of our roles as a counselor is to go into classrooms to give lessons on social and emotional learning, such as empathy, problem solving, child protection, and much more! In September, we talked about what is the role of the school counselor and talked about expected and unexpected behaviors. Expected behaviors are the things we should be doing at that time and place (i.e. When my teacher is teaching, I’m expected to sit and listen. It would be unexpected for me to talk to my friend.) For the month of October, we are doing our bullying prevention lesson. We are talking about the differences between rude, mean, and bullying behaviors, as well as what to do if we see a bullying situation happening. If you need to contact us, please feel free to reach out. Ms. Martin works primarily with Kindergarten (Dvorak & Lott), 1 (Cook), and all classes in 2nd-5th. Ms. Corcoran works primarily with Kindergarten (Pawlowski) and 1 (Robinson & Freeman).
  • Unity Day (Wear Orange) – October is National Bullying Prevention Month and one of the days that we celebrate bullying prevention is Unity Day. On Unity Day, we wear and share orange to show unity for kindness, acceptance, and inclusion and to send a visible message that no one should ever experience bullying. Unity Day is this Wednesday the 19th! We can’t wait to see all the orange.

Friday, August 26, 2022Banner that says "Welcome Back Lions"

Welcome to the new school year! I am excited to welcome back both returning families and new families. We have a great staff who are ready for your children to return to us on Monday morning. For those of you who joined us yesterday at Open House – it was so great seeing so many smiling faces! To top off the smiling faces, the Edukits were delivered yesterday, so we are all set for Monday! We look forward to seeing all our scholars Monday morning, don’t forget – school now starts at 7:50, with the front doors opening at 7:35. All students should enter through the front doors (yes, even our third grade students)! As we start the new school year, I want to offer a few questions for you to ask your children as they return home to you in the afternoon instead of the usual, “How was your day?”:

  • What made you smile today?
  • Who did you sit with at lunch?
  • Tell me something you know today that you didn’t know yesterday.

We will continue to send Friday folders home with student work. I will also send “The Weekly Roar” every Friday to your email box. You can also keep up with what we are up to through our Twitter, Facebook, and school website. I am thrilled to start another year with the Long Branch pride, as I know you are as well. Please do not hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher, Carolyn Jackson (the Assistant Principal), or me with any questions you may have. Here’s to another great year!
