Long Branch School Counseling Program

Long Branch has a comprehensive school counseling program aligned with the American School Counseling Association (ASCA) Model designed to address the diverse needs of our students K-5. School counseling is proactive and focused on helping remove barriers to academic success by resolving academic, social, personal, or emotional concerns that may come up throughout the school year.

Long Branch School Counseling Beliefs

Long Branch school counselors believe:

  • All students can achieve and gain the skills needed to be contributing members of society
  • All students will be exposed to and participate in a comprehensive school counseling program based on their diverse needs
  • All students deserve equitable access to resources to promote achievement
  • The program will focus on the development of all students academic, career, and personal/social domains
  • The program develops student competencies in K through grade 5 based on American School Counseling Association (ASCA), Virginia, and Arlington Public Schools’ standards.

In order to support our beliefs, our program will:

  • Abide by the professional school counseling ethics as advocated by ASCA
  • Develop, coordinate, and implement the program in association with other educators, administrators, parents/guardians, and community representatives
  • Support teachers, administrators, and parents/guardians so they can be more effective helping students gain the competencies of the counseling program
  • Participate in professional development activities including regular supervision, in-service training on multicultural counseling, technology, and program development
  • Continuously monitor counseling program and school goals

Meet Ms. Garcia

Hello, my name is Stephanie Garcia and I am the full-time counselor at Long Branch. I have had the pleasure of being part of the Long Branch community since 2015. I graduated with my B.A. in Sociology from the University of Virginia (WAHOO-WA!) and my M.Ed. in School Counseling from George Mason University. ¡También hablo español!

In my free time, I enjoy playing board games, traveling, attending concerts, and going to the beach with my husband and my 7-year-old son.

I am at Long Branch Monday thru Friday from 7:30 am to 3:00 pm. If you would like to get in contact with me, please feel free to call me directly at 703-228-8058 or email for an appointment. Due to confidentiality, I prefer to speak to families by phone or in person.

Meet Ms. Berry

My name is Donna Berry and I will be the part-time counselor at Long Branch. I have been a counselor for many years and have worked with students ranging in age from elementary up to and including college. I graduated with my BA in Psychology from Mansfield University and my MSEd in Counseling from Old Dominion University.

In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family and kitty cat. I also enjoy reading, baking, and teaching hot yoga.

I am at Long Branch on Tuesdays and Fridays from 7:30-3:00 and I look forward to working with all the students and families this year!
